2011 Sydney International Boat Show

Yesterday I had the rare opportunity of going to Sydney, without my six children in tow.  I went to the Sydney Boat Show to look at big kid toys. The exhibition is massive, it fills all 6 halls of the Darling Harbour Convention centre, and there is more outside with the larger boats on display in the Cockle Bay harbour. So I was glad I had my walking shoes on, and that there were adequate coffee stops around the exhibition, to keep the caffeine levels up.

While I was not in the market for a 1/6th share in a $1million power cruiser, it is still nice to look and dream.  I took my father, who is not the snappiest dresser, brown shoes with black pants, grey and balding sporting a Peugeot jacket.  The uniform of a retiree, that has just got his hands on his superannuation.  He certainly had the attention of the sales representatives. The crappy world market and the strong Australian dollar, means that the imports are super cheap and the reps are super eager to make sales. So if your in the market for a new boat there are some bargains to be had.

The sales rep said that the above boat was the "muscle car" of the boat world, I could pick it up for a cool $180000. The rep was quite annoyed, when I said that my wallet was in my other pants.

Dad ended up buying the above Hobie sailing canoe, I already have dibs on the first ride.

Tangalooma Ship Wrecks at Morton Island

Ever wanted to swim through a ship wreck but do not have scuba diving equipment or the the money to travel to some far off country. Well look no further then the Tangalooma ship wrecks at Morton Island Queensland. It is a great location for water activities such as snorkeling, boating, and canoeing. Since 1963 12 large metal vessels have been sunk to form a protective reef that has become home to a myriad of reed fish including Wobbegong sharks.

In October of 2010 I went on a day trip out to Morton Island from Redcliff with Dolphin Wild Island Cruises . It was a great experience and I only wish that I had a water proof camera to capture this. The cruise boat dropped us off at the southern end of the ship wrecks and we snorkeled our way through them. The current was running north so it dragged us through the wrecks without much effort. I have never swum with so many fish before.

Ebor - Water fall

As a resident of the New England area for 8 years, I found the need to drive over to the coast to thaw out during the winter months. There are a couple of roads that cross the Great Dividing Ranger in Northern NSW including Bruxner Hwy, Gwydir Hwy, and the Waterfall Way. Due to the nature of the environment, these roads are windy and need to be driven with caution. These roads snake through some of the most beautiful country full of rain forests and water falls. One of these water falls is the Ebor Falls just off the Waterfall Way on the western side of the Ebor village.
